Marco Rodolfo Di Tommaso

 Marco Rodolfo Di Tommaso is a Senior Research Affiliate at BASC and Full Professor of Applied Economic Studies at Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, Italy (, and co-founder and Director of CiMET – Italy’s National University Centre for Applied Economic Studies ( He is Life-Member Fellow of Clare Hall, University of Cambridge. In China he is Guest Honorary Professor both at South China University of Technology and South China Normal University. He is also Editor of l’industria (Review of Industrial Economics and Politics), Associate Editor of Competition and Chang, and a member of the Scientific Board of SIEPI –

The Italian Society of Industrial Economics and Policy. Prof. Di Tommaso has consulted with universities, research centers, national and local governments, and international institutions (UNIDO, CEPAL, UNDP, UNITED NATIONS, OECD). He has focused his research on international industry (trends, dynamics and organization); industrial policy (theories, history and practices); development, structural change, and sustainability; and focused particularly on the Chinese economy and industry; health industry; SMEs, clusters, and regional development. He has been a Visiting Scholar at South China University of Technology, UCLA, and the University of Cambridge. He is the author or and co-author of 13 books and more than 150 scientific papers published in professional journals including World Development, Structural Change and Economic Dynamics, China Economic Review, Regional Studies, and the Review of Political Economy. Prof. Di Tommaso hold a bachelor’s degree from Bologna University and a PhD from Naples University. He also studied at Leeds University (European Union Erasmus Scholarship) and he holds a Master from Manchester University.
